Passion Press: Finding Joy off the Beaten Path
I started a mini series of my various passions on the Passion Projekts Instagram, but I am sharing them here as well! In no particular order, starting with a passion of mine that has quite literally taken me outside of my comfort zone.
Hiking
The first time I ever went hiking was in Yosemite National Park in 2016, right before I moved out to California for the first time. That park blew my mind! Hiking on paths along redwood trees, seeing El Capitan, all the waterfalls, and one of the most glorious sunsets in my life….Yeah, I fell in love. I was initially so scared of hiking. I don’t know why, it’s literally walking…and a bit of climbing and sliding, but you get it.
Being out in nature, surrounded by the elements, makes me feel so small but in the biggest way! I am part of the nature around me. I am forced to be present, appreciate the trail, be aware of the wildlife, and be part of something bigger than me. That’s pretty extraordinary.

Trekking trails and terrains I’ve never been on really opened my eyes and mind to how vast the world is. Plus, the views are awesome.
I can’t name one single national park or hike that I favor the most. They are all so unique and beautiful, but I do know that every time I leave a hike, I feel more adventurous, brave, soul fed (sweaty, tired, and a tad dirty too!), and excited for the next trail.
I can say, Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona blew my mind and surprised me. Standing next to those colorful masses of rock and sediment, walking on trails along petrified and crystallized wood— what a trip!
